Visage Renascence is a chance of “renaistre”, that offers a unique opportunity to revitalize and capitalize the Pushinsky Cinema Hall of an iconic landmark within the Pushkin Square Moscow. Through the redefinition and extension of the envelope the Pushinsky Cinema Hall, Visage Renascence emphasizes its position as the centre of Russia’s cultural life which reaches out to the international film and cultural milieu.
The redefinition of the skin offers an opportunity to create a formal centre of the Pushkin square through its filleted silhouette. Elegantly flowing, the facade creates an every changing visual impression, through its unique expression of shape on the cellular level and overall form. Exclusively industrious and ephemeral, Visage Renascence will communicate with the diverse community of whom looks upon the structure throughout the square, and will become an icon in the film industry.
Chosen for its undemanding colour, flexibility of design, penetration of light, easy maintenance and good weather and UV-resistance, each facade cladding is made with Dupont Corian. Composed with carefully thermoformed Dupont Corian External Cladding moulded sheets; the standardised formulaic and modular arrangement of the Corian gilded façade offers the prospect for continuous configurations, arranged among five differentiated patterns. Each patterned unit is composed with four pieces which hold together the singular design. Through a systematic process, the five differentiated configurations are organized on the façade to create a simultaneously elegant and flowing visage, while offering a distinctive insertion into the urban fabric.
Visually appealing and designed within eco-effectiveness in mind, the external cladding of the design also has positive environmental impact. Each unit are occupied with indigenous vegetation that is rejuvenated through the different seasons, which cleans and purifies the surrounding and contaminated air within Pushkin Square. This intervention enhances the environment which optimising a visually stunning counterpart to the Square which communicates with the adjacent park. Additionally, the units intelligently reflect daylight into the interior of the lobby, by which in the evening, the LED light embedded within each unit lights up the facade like a gem mounted in the centre of the Square.
The circular form of the theatre embraces the first floor terrace creating a new skin, which deviates from and around the first floor platform that creates a new pre-concert extension interior space. The comprehensive reacts with unlimited possibilities, which mainly organises itself as a courtyard and buffer zone for the culturally inclined visitors entering the innovative and pristine Pushkin Cinema Hall. While protecting the visitors from the elements, the buffer zone between the external cladding and the main theatre could also offer a multitude of other opportunities, that could entail the use as a hosting space for VIP opening parties, political events, or various occasion affairs —for example the space could also hold the future Moscow film festival Press Conferences and entertaining venues for VIPs.
The contemporary facade draws its reference from the Beaux-Arts architecture of the surrounding buildings of Pushkin Square, whereby the formal aesthetic becomes performative through its environmentally eco-intelligent units.
